Cuticle Removers are used when the cuticle is too large and intruding onto the nail plate. They can be in the form of a fluid, lotion, or cream and are applied to the cuticle area followed by gentle massage to the area. Cuticle Removers generally contain either sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide and are extremely alkaline. A pH OF 10 or higher is not unheard of. The cuticle will become soft and washes off with gentle rubbing. The use of surfactants can assist in the penetration of the ingredients and speed up the softening of the cuticle.
