According to WHO, Indonesia is a country of endemic dengue fever mosquito. Approximately 2-5% of the world population is in danger of dengue fever disease. It is necessary to make an action for this outbreak is not widespread, and one way is by controlling disease vectors and self protection.

Lots of synthetic insecticides that can cause side effects and resistance, make people switch to products derived from natural materials. One is a plant that can be used is lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus), which has a volatile oil content of which geraniol, methyl heptenon, and especially is citronellal. Content of these are toxic and can cause death due to fluid loss mosquito constantly so it will lack body fluids.

Some dosage forms have been tried to create a formula anti mosquito, one of the most popular dosage form lotions. This is due to ease of use and practical. Lotion is an emulsion, so we need a proper surfactant. Some things to consider in making preparations lotion is stability. Lotion would be damaged if disturbed system alloys mainly due to changes in temperature and composition are not sesai with prescribed dose.

Based lotion lemongrass essential oil is functions as an anti-mosquito. This is due to the effect that it contains citronellal as a contact poison for mosquitoes and other insects.
In addition to citronella oil, other materials used were:
1. Stearic acid as a neutralizer for not too alkaline pH.
2. Olive oil as a base and moisturizing cream.
3. Cera alba as a base lotion and skin softener.
4. Nipagin as a preservative.
5. Triethanolamine as a surfactant and moisturize the skin.
6. Distilled water as a solvent.

Selection of preservative that is used must consider the stability of the materials used and the effect on the skin. In making this lotion nipagin used as a preservative because it fits with the materials used and relatively safe for the skin.

The resulting lotion has anything comfortable to wear but it usefulness has not been tested. The color white lotion, rather thick, and smelled lemongrass oil. After storage for 2 weeks lotion be nice and not overgrown pleh fungi or microbes, it is also caused by citronella oil efficacious as an anti-bacterial.

Difficulties experienced during practicum is to cover up the smell of lemongrass was terrible and maybe for some people cause inconvenience in use, pengatasannya we add other natural perfume of lavender so smells a bit covered.

Prospect development lotion dosage is very open so that should be developed further studies on the formula and its effectiveness. This is because until now there is no preparation lotion actually made from natural and not mixed with other synthetic materials.
